Armidale Transition Town Initiative
There is currently a push to make Armidale one of Australia's first Transition Towns. At the moment the Sunshine Coast is the only official Australian Transition Town, although there are plenty of Mullers.
The Transition Towns initiatives aims to prepare local communities for the inevitable consequences of Peak Oil by increasing local knowledge and skils and developing resilience in the community. It is a wonderfully positive way of dealing with the world's environmental crisis because it involves envisioning an alternative and much more satisfying and enjoyable future and then making plans about how to get there.
It was originated by Rob Hopkins who is a permaculture teacher in the UK and has now spread around the world.
